Common Stereo Types of a Teen Genre

Genre: Teen

Taditionally in a teen genre film there are two groups of friends, ushally in a schhol. One group is traditionaly the 'popular' group, who consist of the bitchy girls and the 'jocks' (popular boys). The other group is traditionaly the protagonist so 'the unpopular' group. Taditionally a group of people who don't follow the crowd and are seen as uncool, and reffered to as 'nerds' or 'geeks', they are ushally victims of bullying from the 'popular' group.

In the High School Musical triology, the lead character Troy Bolton is the popular kid in school, captin of the basketball team and the school heatthrob, this sterotypically is seen as antagonist but in HSM he is the protagonist. Troy is still hard working at school and also part of the drama club which is not stereotypical of a 'jock', his girlfriend is also the new girl at school and is seen as the geeky clever girl. This is a more traditional representation in this genre.

Analysis of Film Poster: A Cinderella Story

Like the 17 Again poster it uses negative space well creative focus on the subject of the poster, however the white colour background is more fairytale like than modern and professional. The poster is still professional, but the soft blues of the text give the fairytale softness. This is supported by the big white dress Hilary Duff is wearing, like a princess. The film title also supports this. She is also wearing pink converse suggesting she could be a tomboy, but because they are pink she is still girly. She is on Chad Micheal Murray's back suggesting their close, and a possible romantic connection. The poster also displays a quote from a film reviewer. The quote is possotive so it attracts audiences, to make them what to go see it.

Analysis of Film Poster: 17 Again

The poster has lots of negative space around the image so your eye is automatically drawn to the main image. The white colour give a professional simple look, with the simple black and red texts. The main image is Zac Efron who is the USP. Efron is dressed in casual clothing completed with a pair a sunglasses representing him as cool. Around his ankles is a pair of trousers and a shirt which looks as if they have fallen of him. He also has a tie around his neck. This gives a sense of a tranformation from where the clothing is on his body like it was a suit which has come of reveling a iner-person (17). This is also supported by the title of the film, and the tag line for the film 'Who says you're only young once?'
