Costumes

I think how my characters look and are represented is very important for my trailer as much as everything else. It's important I follow codes and conventions of my genre and also think about audience theory as I want the audience to empathize with my lead female protagonist follows the uses and gratifications theory.
I've looked at the dress of some characters in some films of my genre including: Raise Your Voice, Hannah Montana The Movie and A Cinderella Story.

All these characters are dressed very casually, and look relaxed. The look consists of T-shirts, jeans and trainers. I think these makes the audience interact when the characters easier as they aren't these make believe types of girls, they are normal, most likely the audience who would be watching the film. The audience will decode the ideas I have encoded into my text to help build character and personality.

Understanding these codes and conventions will help me produce a succsessful trailers that fits my genre. I have also learned what are common stereotypes of my genre, and similar themes. I've also looked at exsisting films posters and again looked at codes and conventions of these so I can produce a good film posters for my coursework.

Audience Theory

There are many audience theories which looks at how different medias can affect an audience.

Hypodermic Syringe Theory: The hypodermic syringe says the media injects ideas and beliefs into the audience which will influence their actions.

The Culmination Theory: The culmination theory suggest over a period of time we become used to it. So if violence is constantly shown on TV over time will become immune to it, and would not affect us.

Two Step Flow: As an audience we previceve medias differently to others, but from the discussions we have with others we will be influenced by those conversations.

Uses & Gratifications Theory: We choose what we watch and see to be gratified by it. There are 5 mains reasons:
1. Information
2. Entertainment
3. Personal Identity
4. Social
5. Escapism

Genre Research

My teen film touches on the idea of magical/un-explained theme. Many other films of this genre also follow this theme. Films such as Just My Luck, Freaky Friday and 17 Again.
In my film we see the character Mollie 'delete', her boyfriend Nate. In Just My Luck, the characters of Ashley and Jake share a kiss where their luck is swapped, Zac Efron's character Mike, in 17 Again transforms from a 37 year old man to a 17 year old teenager and in Freaky Friday the mother and daughter switch bodies.
